FRESH PAINT 2017 3rd Biennial Painting Exhibition

I am honored to be included in this prestigious exhibition.

Opening this Friday September 29

3rd Biennial Painting Exhibition

At some point many generations ago society reached a level where ordinary people could spend a lifetime perfecting their ability to mix and apply paint, in extraordinary ways. Manifest established FRESH PAINT as a permanent biennial project in 2013 to inaugurate our expanded gallery. FRESH PAINT 2017 is the third biennial presentation of this international survey of contemporary painting.
FRESH PAINT joins Drawn as a recurring gallery exhibition designed to complement our annual INDA and INPA (drawing and painting) publications. Every two years it launches our exhibition season by presenting a competitive group exhibition focused exclusively on painting.
For this exhibit 116 artists from 22 states, Canada, China, England, France, Indonesia, and Ireland submitted 362 works. Eighteen works by the following 17 artists from 15 states were selected by a blind jury process for presentation in the gallery and the Manifest Exhibition Annual publication.

In this episode, you'll hear more from Jenniffer on how she's steadily grown her art career as a painter, installation artist, and bookmaker, establishing herself within her local arts community, developing patience and persistence, and the freedom to weave together her creative pursuits. "

New Painting in Waterloo Arts Exhibition

Have a new painting in the Waterloo Arts Juried Exhibition in Collinwood area of Cleveland. Please share in celebration with me an all the other artists for the opening tonight, Friday June 2 @ 5-9 pm

From the venue:
June’s Walk All Over Waterloo for the opening reception of Cleveland’s first district-wide Juried Exhibition. The Waterloo Arts District has become a hub for many of the Cleveland’s visual artists who want to live, work and play in this lakeside creative community and Waterloo is now home to many galleries, art studios and other arts related businesses. After an overwhelming response to Waterloo Arts’ annual Juried Exhibition, we have partnered with Praxis Fiber Workshop and Brick Ceramic Studio + Design, to expand the exhibit into these two additional gallery spaces, allowing us to double the number of accepted pieces into the show. During the opening reception on Friday, June 2 you can meet 2017 juror, Anderson Turner, and participating artists while enjoying refreshments and live music at Waterloo Arts, Praxis Fiber Workshop and Brick Ceramic Studio + Design.

Modern Marble show in Panama City Florida

Operating under my marbling Business name Jenniffer Collier via JC Marbling, had a great write up in the Panama City News Herald about my show "Modern Marble" at the Bay County Public Library. On view are 20 prints that pay homage to the history and origins of design in marbling. On view through April 30.

 statement for show:

In the collection of work, for Modern Marble, I am combining historical patterns from Turkey, France, Italy, and England, using highly saturated, non-traditional colors to enhance the art of the original design. Marbled paper historically was used for hundreds of years to adorn the exterior or interior of important manuscripts. In this small body of work, I am presenting a collection of traditional and non-traditional designs and like paintings, distilled in a 2D viewing experience with a fraction of the possibilities and color combinations. I am interested in the beauty of design and pattern and it’s calming and effect on the viewer.
What is Marbling? It is the creative act of using watercolor or water thinned paint that has been dispersed on a bed of thickened water (carrageenan), to create original and ornate designs by either raking, manipulating, or drawing with a thin tool into the water/paint surface. Each print pulled is essentially a monoprint after a sheet of prepared paper is carefully laid on top of the inked water.
Marbling has thick roots, much like the history of painting; its history can be traced to Suminagashi (Japan), then migrated to Turkey, France, and England, while eventually ending up in America. Each country has a stylistic signature and color palette that is historically tied with marbling. While this is an overly simplified and paired down version of the history, it is part of the stylistic lineage that places certain designs in the creative act of this particular making. Marbling is like 2D yoga for those who practice this ancient craft. The maker strives for balance and finding a rhythm between the paint and water. As an art form, this has a great lineage and beautiful history. I encourage you to use some of the resources at this library to continue learning with me.
