A sketchbook is a staple in my studio practice where drawings from observation, scribbles notes, lists and ideas for future work arise which open up the intense nature of imagination. Abstract design is pure when it comes from the impulses that are quick and immidiate, yet overly simple. These pages are where I work out ideas, gain confidence and compile marks for the future. I grew up drawing the figure, but the bulk of my work is not figureative. I seek to draw beauty that is beneath the skin.
On a side note...
I am a huge fan of Moleskine sketchbooks....but now I make my own. If you are interested in any of my handmade sketchbooks, please visit my store at http://www.jcmarbling.com.
